Positive Lifting recently partnered with DMB Construction Corp to provide a range of crane and rigging services for a comprehensive project at Queens College, located in the heart of Flushing, Queens. This iconic educational institution required a meticulous approach, and we were proud to contribute our expertise in lifting and installing new mechanical units, Con Edison transformers, and detention tanks, while also supporting the removal of outdated equipment to modernize the college's infrastructure.
A Campus That Demands Excellence
Queens College is not only one of the most respected academic institutions in New York, but its campus is filled with students, faculty, and staff who are consistently moving between classes, libraries, dormitories, and athletic facilities. Given the high traffic flow, maintaining the safety and well-being of students while completing heavy lifts and crane operations was of paramount importance. We took extra care to ensure that all operations were done seamlessly, without compromising the daily operations of the college.
Ensuring Safety with Precision
Given the nature of the project and the proximity to an active campus, Positive Lifting took extensive steps to prepare for every lift and adhere to the highest safety protocols. Our commitment to safety was evident in the thorough site preparation that involved flaggers, caution tapes, and clearly visible slow/stop signs to guide foot traffic and ensure safety for all students, faculty, and workers. We also deployed air horns and handheld air meters to monitor and communicate effectively with the team.
To further increase visibility and prevent any accidents, bright, reflective clothing was required for everyone working on-site. We also utilized anemometers to measure wind speeds and ensure conditions were safe for lifting at all times. The coordinated effort between our trained team of master riggers, crane operators, and flaggers made certain that every heavy lift was executed with expert precision and that the campus community was fully protected throughout the operation.
Comprehensive Crane and Rigging Solutions
The scope of our work included lifting and installing new HVAC mechanical units, ranging from large, heavy units to smaller systems. Our team’s expertise with skates, rollers, chainfalls, and come-alongs ensured that heavy units were handled with care and placed in the correct positions without delay. We also provided critical spreader tanks and spreader bars to facilitate the installation of new water tank systems and power generator rigs, all essential to ensuring the college’s infrastructure was modernized and efficient.
As the project progressed, we assisted in the removal and disposal of outdated equipment, showcasing our versatility and range of services. Positive Lifting ensured that all equipment was installed properly, including the detention tanks and other essential electrical systems powered by Con Edison transformers.
One of the more unique aspects of the project was our assistance in installing a swimming pool spa for the school. Positive Lifting’s versatility and capacity to handle a variety of lifts, from heavy equipment to specialized installations, ensured that all aspects of the project were completed seamlessly.
